Imposter Syndrome and Employee Engagement

In 2018 I took a really cool job. I was perfect for the job. My boss, though, was more perfect. He had more skills, more vision, and better execution than I would have. After a few weeks I found myself in the parking lot, before working, wondering why I was there.

This was my first experience with imposter syndrome, and the most drastic. My boss was awesome, and helped me, but it took a few months for these thoughts to calm down. During those few months I did my job but probably not as well as if I hadn’t stressed about being unfit, and imposter.

Also, for me, it was unusual. Professionally, I was decently accomplished and perhaps overqualified for this role. But I still got to the point where I wondered why I was there.
